Well we needed a new mantle sign so we decided to make our own.
First we took a piece of spare wood we had and painted it a dark blue with spray paint. Next we took a lighter blue and rubbed it into the wood with a rag, using a dry rag to wipe of excess and create a rustic or worn look.
After this we took our sander and rounded and aged the edges and smoothed out the painted surface and gave it some rough age spots.
We drew the letters by hand on some thinner pieces of wood and then used a jig saw to cut them out. We sanded all the edges nice and smooth and then painted red.
The trees were leftover pieces of panel that were just laying on the shop floor. We sprayed them each a different color.
Next we attached each piece with wood glue, let it set and we have this awesome mantlepiece.
Lisa decorated some small trees and placed them in front, it looks great!
